Resume summary examples for 108 jobs

A resume summary is two or three lines under your name that say what you do, what you are good at and one result that proves it. Below are the summaries from every example résumé in the library, grouped by field, each linked to the full résumé it opens.

Read them for their shape rather than their words: a role and a specialty first, then a figure, then where you are heading. The people and employers are invented; the structure is the part worth copying.

How to write a resume summary

Start with the job you do and the level you do it at, add the area you are known for, and end on one measured result. Three lines is plenty; a summary that runs to a paragraph is read as one.

Skip the adjectives a reader cannot check ("hard-working", "passionate") and the objective statement about what you want. The summary is the place to say what an employer gets.

    Questions

How long should a resume summary be?
Two or three lines, around 40 to 60 words. Long enough to name your role, your strength and one result; short enough to be read in full.
Do I need a summary if I have little experience?
A short one helps a fresher or career changer: say what you studied or did, the skill you bring and the role you want. See the resume for freshers guide.
Is a summary the same as an objective?
No. An objective says what you want; a summary says what you offer. Most employers now expect a summary.
